I heard this really cool song last night and I have no idea who sings it and I have never heard it before. It's about a guy who wakes up this bum because he is going to freeze to death outside. The lyrics go something like:

I just climbed down from the cottonwood treeeee

I was running from some honeybeeees

drip drop drying in the summer breeeeze

after jumpin in calicooo creeeeek

I was walking down a long dirt roooooooad

past a big hay field that had just been moooooooowed

man I wish you'd just left me alooone

cause i was almost hoome

Anyone know it???

Craig Morgan

Almost Home

He had plastic bags wrapped around his shoes
He was covered with the evening news and a pair of old wool socks on his hands
The bank sign was flashing 5 below
It was freezing rain and spitting snow
He was curled up behind some garbage cans
I was afraid that he was dead I gave him a gentle shake
When he opened up his eyes I said oh man are you OK

He said I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree
I was running from some honey bees
Drip drying in the summer breeze
After jumping into calico creek
I was walking down an old dirt road
Past a field of hay that had just been mowed
Man I wish you just left me alone
Cause I was almost home

And he said I was just comin' round the barn
Bout the time you grabbed my arm
When I heard momma holler son hurry up
I was close enough from my own nose to smell fresh cobbler on the stove
When I saw daddy loading up the truck
Cane poles on the tailgate
Bobber's blowing in the wind
Since July of 55 that's as close as I've been

Yeah I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree
Where I was running from some honey bees
Drip drying in the summer breeze
After jumpin' into calico creek
I was walkin' down an old dirt road
Past a field of hay that had just been mowed
Man I wish you'd just left me alone
I was almost home

I said old man your gonna freeze to death let me drive you to the mission
He said boy if you left me alone right now I'd be fishing
I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree
I was runnin' from some honeybees
Drip drying in the summer breeze
After jumpin' into calico creek
I was walkin' down and old dirt road
Past a field of hay that had just been mowed
Man I wish you'd just left me alone cause I was almost home
Man I wish you'd just left me alone I was almost home

Thanks for the help with this song. It has been making my husband stop the car and hope that they give the name. So I made it my plan tonight to surf until I found something about it. Thanks again. It is a cool song

Welcome to the TrueCountry forum Pamh, we're glad you found us. I know exactly what you mean... it drives me crazy when I hear a good song on the radio and they don't tell you what it was.

I hope that you and your husband will visit us here often. ;)

Yea and the name of the Album is I love it I think This not Craig's first Major album he had one were they filmed one of the videos at the army base he was stationed at while in the military. Artists like Craig Morgan have been in Nashville for a while but the record label kept shelving him or dropping him. To me he is like myself a true Country artists. I too was in the military and so was my influence George Strait and we were both Combat medical Specialists which was weird when i found out after I was finished with my term in the Army!

Almost Home was played at US101 in January. The CD was sent in by a non named person. The afternoon crew played the song, without knowing who it was or the song title.

Official release date was: 3/11/03 for "I love it"

And, to top this release off, Craig had just lost his deal with Atlantic records and went with Broken Bow records. Broken Bow a little recording company might well be on a move with the success of Craig Morgan. (Others there now are: Joe Diffie / Sherrie Austin / Chad Brock to name a few.)

It had been copied from a studio, and passed down until it got sent into the radio station.

Finally, Craig called the radio station and said - Hey thats me!

Funny think is, this is the second time 1 of Craig's songs got played by this station without knowledge of who it was. An over looked song from his debut album was played as a copied single at the station also. " WHEN A MAN CAN'T GET A WOMAN OFF HIS MIND ". A overlooked gem that was played, and last Febuary of 2002 Craig had called in to the radio station and said: "Hey thats me!"

Just a little trivia from me!

I found this post while doing a Yahoo search looking for this song. I have been trying to find out who the singer was and what the name of the song is for weeks. ALMOST HOME BY CRAIG MORGAN. Now I can download it off of Kazaa and burn me a CD! Thanks for the information.:)
